Modern Garden Design in Wilanów – Urban Garden 002

Introduction: “Urban Garden 002” is a project located in Warsaw’s Wilanów district, covering an area of 300 m². This design serves as a perfect example of harmoniously integrating green space into the dense urban fabric.

Design Challenges – Privacy in Dense Development: The main challenge was ensuring a sense of privacy for the owners while maintaining compositional openness. The project had to reconcile the close proximity of neighboring buildings with the need to create a sanctuary. It was crucial to shape the plot boundaries in a way that visually separated the garden interior without creating overwhelming, solid barriers.

Functional and Spatial Layout: The concept is based on a geometric layout that organizes the space and corresponds with the modern form of the building. A clear division into zones was applied:

  • Terrace Zone: Acts as a direct extension of the living room. The use of large-format slabs emphasizes the modern character and facilitates circulation.
  • Open Recreational Zone: The central part of the garden features a well-kept lawn, which optically enlarges the space and provides a background for the plantings.
  • Green Backdrop: Tiered plantings were designed along the fence to build viewing frames and screen the owners.

Selection of Vegetation and Materials: The choice of materials focused on raw elegance – stone slabs and fine aggregates that contrast with the lush greenery of the lawn. The planting palette was composed based on evergreen species and ornamental grasses, which introduce dynamism and lightness (the characteristic rustle in the wind) to the garden, while remaining attractive for the majority of the year.
