DUTCH STYLE GARDEN

Dutch-style garden near Lodz. A cozy oasis on 6100 m²
How to avoid the impression of emptiness in an area of more than half an acre? How to create an intimate space there? The “Dutch-style garden” project of 2017 is our master lesson in scaling. Around a house with distinctive architecture, we created a garden divided into smaller, intimate interiors. Despite the impressive area of 6100 m², we achieved the effect of a cozy oasis. We seamlessly combined recreational and representative functions in it.
Spatial concept. Garden interiors
The key for us to tame such a vast area was to introduce a clear division. We designated zones, which we call garden interiors.
Scale and proportion
The house is elevated slightly above ground level. This forced us to come up with interesting solutions in sculpting the terrain. Instead of one flat surface, we introduced differentiated levels. They dynamize the space and build natural boundaries for individual zones.
Full functionality
The garden houses a rich leisure program. Here we designed a spacious swimming pool and a gazebo with a fully equipped outdoor kitchen. We also left extensive lawns that are ideal for outdoor games.
Plunge. The heart of the garden
The most distinctive element of the design is the sunken garden. We located it on the transverse axis of the garden. It attracts the eye and makes the whole project unique.
- Absolute privacy: This is a rest area that we intentionally lowered relative to the ground level. As a result, people in it are “enveloped” by vegetation. This gives a sense of maximum security and isolation.
- Climate: We made the centerpiece of the indentation a bio-fireplace. In this way we created a luxurious open-air living room. It can be used from early spring to late autumn.
Dutch-style vegetation
Our plantings refer to the best models of the Dutch style. In them, we combine the discipline of molded hedges with the exuberance of flowering perennials. The vegetation does not only decorate. It performs a key architectural function here. Walls of greenery separate individual garden rooms and protect them from the wind. At the same time they tie the garden and the body of the building together stylistically.
