MODERN CHAMBER GARDEN 001

A modern intimate garden in Warsaw. A private oasis on 450 m²
Designing a functional rest area in a compact development is a challenge. It requires precise planning. We implemented the project “Modern intimate garden 001” in 2013. In it, we proved that even on 450 m² you can create an intimate enclave. Our goal was to completely isolate the householders from the hustle and bustle of Warsaw. Here we combined minimalist aesthetics with maximum functionality.
Concept and spatial layout. Geometry of form
The key to success in this project is geometry. We divided the garden into functional zones that flow seamlessly into each other. We used the straight lines of the paths and terrace. They optically enlarge the plot and introduce spatial order.
Rest area
We made the spacious terrace the heart of the garden. It is a natural extension of the living room. We used high-quality planks of exotic wood on it. They correspond to the materials used on the floor in the interior of the house.
Privacy and “green walls”
We took care of the full freedom of the householders. We carefully sheltered the borders of the plot. We made compact plantings of common hornbeam. They form a “green wall” that effectively obscures the view from neighboring properties.
Plants and materials. Timeless minimalism
In the choice of materials we focused on contrast. We broke the rawness of the basalt slabs with the warmth of natural wood. We also deliberately limited the plant palette to maintain a modern style:
- Evergreen shrubs: These are guaranteed to maintain the structure of the garden throughout the year.
- Ornamental grasses: They introduce lightness and movement that contrasts with static architecture.
- Molded plants: They emphasize the geometric character of the whole establishment.
Lighting the garden and building the mood
Light plays a key role in our arrangement. In the evening, the garden changes its face. An illuminated decorative panel, which is the backdrop for the water element in the form of a small fountain, we placed on the main viewing axis of the garden. We also used spot lighting to expose the texture of the plants and elements of small garden architecture. In this way we create a scenography conducive to relaxation. The light not only builds mood, but also adds depth to the garden after dark.
