Modern urban garden in Stegny. A private enclave on 260 m²

Creating an intimate relaxation area in a Warsaw housing estate is a challenge. It requires precise planning. In the project “Modern Urban Garden 003” from 2020, we prove an important point: even on 260 sqm in a dense development, it is possible to create an oasis of tranquility. Our goal was to make maximum use of the available space. We also focused on isolating householders from the sight of neighbors. In Warsaw’s Stegny district, this is a key task.

Concept and functional layout. Zoning of space

We have established a clear zoning. It organizes the space of the entire garden.

Open-air living room

The main part is a spacious terrace. Thanks to the large glazing of the terrace door, we seamlessly connected it with the interior of the house.

Multifunctionality in a small space

Despite the limited space, we have set aside space for various activities. Here we designed a dining area and an intimate corner with loungers. We surrounded it with lush vegetation.

Geometric order

We marked out the paths and borders of the flowerbeds with straight lines. This is characteristic of the modern style. This allows us to optically organize the space.

Selection of plants and materials. Consistency with the architecture

In the choice of materials, we focused on consistency with the character of the building and the interior. This is the hallmark of good landscape architecture projects.

  • Natural barriers: we took care of the privacy of the householders. Along the borders of the plot, we used storied plantings. Taller trees and shrubs create a green screen. They filter the view from neighboring windows. The lower tier of plants adds depth to the composition.
  • Ornamental grasses and perennials: They bring softness to the geometric layout. Their rustling and rippling in the wind create a relaxing atmosphere. They also provide a contrast to paved surfaces.
  • Minimalist color palette: We kept the color scheme in muted tones. We chose green, white, gray and purple. This is conducive to calming down after a busy day in the city.

Lighting and retail

In a small garden, detail is of great importance. We carefully selected outdoor lighting. It not only extends the enjoyment of the garden. It also builds up the scenery, which can be seen from the living room windows all year round. We illuminated key groups of plants and ornamental sculptures. This makes the garden gain depth in the evening and becomes part of the interior.
