ROOF GARDEN 001

Rooftop garden project in South Prague. 120 m² luxury terrace
“Garden on the Roof 001” is our project with an area of 120 m². It is located in Warsaw’s Praga Południe district. We prove with this project that the roof of a building can become a full-fledged living space. It offers comfort comparable to a traditional garden. Our main idea was to create a modern viewing terrace. Here we combined a leisure function with a striking design.
Design Challenges. Sun and wind
Designing rooftop gardens involves specific requirements. We had to take into account difficult environmental conditions.
- Protection from the sun: the open space of the roof means intense sunlight. To make it possible to use the terrace on hot days, we used a system of roller blinds. They provide shade and allow you to regulate the temperature in the rest area.
- View balance: The challenge for us was the placement of the landscaping elements. We had to provide intimacy, but we didn’t want to obscure the skyline of Warsaw. This is the biggest asset of this property.
Functional layout. Living room under the sky
We divided the space into zones that seamlessly intermingle. They form a cohesive whole with the character of a luxury penthouse.
Rest area and details
The heart of the establishment is the area under the canopy (pergola). The central place here is occupied by a comfortable corner. We also introduced important decorative elements:
- Bio-fireplace: on cooler evenings it gives cozy warmth and a homey atmosphere.
- Wall panel: an ornamental element above the dining table closes the compositional axis.
Lighting and vegetation on the roof
Light plays a key role in the perception of this garden. After dark, the terrace gains a second face. Our illumination brings out the textures and shapes of the plants. The soft light of the bio-fireplace does not compete with the lights of the city. It harmoniously complements the night skyline of Warsaw.
We selected the greenery to withstand difficult conditions (wind, sun). In white, insulated pots we planted hardy and easy to maintain species. They create a green framework for the whole establishment and soften the severity of the architecture.
