Modern Water Garden Design – Modern Garden 002
Introduction: “Modern Garden 002” is a conceptual design located in Bronisze near Warsaw. On an area of 360 m², a minimalist oasis was created where the water element plays the leading role. This design serves as a perfect example of how a spectacular scenery, combining raw architecture with dynamic nature, can be built on a small plot.
Design Challenges – Intimacy and Noise Control: When designing a space in dense suburban development, the key was to isolate the residents from the surroundings.
- Visual and Acoustic Barrier: A high wall was applied on the southern side, serving a dual function: it provides a minimalist background for the water composition and effectively screens the view of the neighboring plot, ensuring a sense of intimacy.
- Sound of Water: The introduction of a water feature (waterfall) aims to create “white noise” that masks sounds coming from the outside.
Functional and Spatial Layout: The garden’s composition is based on a strong, central visual axis that organizes the space.
- Ornamental Pool with a Footbridge: The heart of the garden is a geometric water reservoir. An impressive footbridge, which is an integral part of the terrace, runs through its center. This solution allows users direct contact with the water and a walk “above the surface.”
- Lounge Terrace: Made of exotic wood, it constitutes a warm counterpoint to the coldness of the water and concrete, offering a place for outdoor relaxation.
Selection of Vegetation and Materials: The choice of materials and plants focuses on absolute minimalism and economy of form.
- Monocultural Plantings: Multicolored flower beds were abandoned in favor of large drifts of a single plant variety (mainly ornamental grasses). This emphasizes the modern character of the garden.
- Structural Plants: They introduce order and geometry, corresponding with the lines of the pool and walls.
Lighting Scenario and Illumination: Lighting in this project serves not only a utilitarian function but is a key element in creating the mood.
- Water Illumination: Light sources placed in the pool basin and at the cascade bring out the dynamics of the water and create spectacular light reflections on the surrounding surfaces.
- Shadow Play: Spotlights directed at the ornamental grasses cast soft, shimmering shadows on the smooth surface of the wall, softening its raw form.
- Accentuating Geometry: Linear lighting along the footbridge and terrace edges highlights the modern compositional layout after dark.
