Garden on the roof in Warsaw. An orangery and urban oasis on 200 sq. m.

On the roof of an elegant apartment building in Warsaw’s Mokotow district, we created an urban oasis in a modern style. The clients wanted two key elements: a year-round orangery and a professional barbecue area. Our 200 sqm project combined these functions, creating a true “garden living room.”

Functional layout. Sunshine at any time of the day

We divided the terrace into two independent but stylistically consistent zones.

Western zone (Afternoon relaxation)

This is the superior part of the terrace. We placed comfortable sofas and a garden kitchen with a large stone countertop adjacent to the conservatory.

  • Summer kitchen: We integrated a dining table for 6 people into the worktop. It serves as a natural extension of the kitchen.
  • Level play: We placed the dining area below the main level. This variation in height adds dynamics and separates functions without the use of walls.
Eastern Zone (Morning Coffee)

On the east side we created an additional “garden interior”. There is a smaller lounge set and deck chairs. This is an ideal place to start the day in the sun.

Materials and finishes. Avoiding monotony

With the large area of the terrace (200 m²), there was a risk of monotony. To avoid this, we used two contrasting types of paving:

  • Warm-feeling decking (in rest areas).
  • Large-format stone slabs (in walkways and kitchens).

Intimacy and atmosphere

In the dense housing of Mokotow, privacy is a luxury. To get it, we shielded the terrace with wooden panels from the neighbors. The introduction of lush greenery and multiple light points made the terrace a cozy, warm space after dark.
